Vessel hits fishing boat; 40 rescued

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Forty fishermen were rescued after their boat was hit by another vessel in the waters off Lubang Island in Occidental Mindoro yesterday.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the fishermen were transferred to BRP Bagacay, which responded to the scene of the accident.

Capt. Vic Acosta, commander of the PCG-Batangas station, said the fishermen were in good condition.

Initial reports said the fishing boat was anchored near Lubang Island when it was hit by a still unknown vessel.

“The boat’s outrigger on the port side was damaged. Bagacay towed the boat back to port,” said Acosta.

The PCG has yet to identify the vessel that hit the fishing boat.
