Japan embassy, DPWH inaugurate CDO flood control project
MANILA, Philippines — The Japanese embassy and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) inaugurated yesterday a flood risk management project in Cagayan de Oro.
Akito Kinoshita, second secretary of the Japanese embassy, joined DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan at the inauguration, which was also attended by Cagayan de Oro lawmakers Rufus Rodriguez and Lordan Suan and Mayor Rolando Uy.
The project is supported by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Kinoshita reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to work with the Philippines toward sustainable development and a disaster-resilient society.
Signed on March 7, 2019 by the DPWH and Toyo Construction Co. Ltd., the project includes the construction of a 2.3-kilometer floodwall with boulevard along the Cagayan de Oro River.
Japanese technology was used for underground soil improvement using “non-vibratory sand compaction piles method” to minimize building site disruption.
