Fire displaces 22 families in Caloocan

Mark Ernest Villeza - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 22 families were left homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area in Caloocan City on Saturday.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze started at around 8:47 a.m. and reached the first alarm before it was declared under control before 9 a.m.

Didal Tiposo, 51, suffered first-degree burns on his shoulder, the BFP said.

Prior to the fire, Barangay 120 captain Antonio Duran said they received reports that a five-year-old boy was seen playing with matchsticks while his parents were sleeping.

Duran said the child burned his finger and allegedly threw the lighted matchstick on the bed, which could have sparked the fire.
