NLEX Candaba viaduct to fully open during Holy Week

Delon Porcalla - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The 6.8-kilometer viaduct in Candaba, Pampanga will be fully opened to traffic starting April 3.

“We will finish retrofitting the southbound lane of the viaduct next month. All lanes of NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) will be open for Holy Week,” NLEX Corp. vice president Jennifer Jane Go told an interagency consultative meeting at the House of Representatives on Monday.

The southbound lane of the five-kilometer bridge has been closed for several months now to pave the way for retrofitting.

During the meeting, NLEX officials led by senior vice president Romulo Quimbo said the construction of a third span of the Candaba viaduct, which would begin in May, may be completed by December next year.

He said NLEX Corp. has awarded the contract for the additional bridge to international contractor Leighton Asia.
