Magnitude 4.6 quake hits Camarines Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Camarines Norte on Tuesday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 10 kilometers north of Tinaga Island in Vinzons town at around 9:46 p.m.

The agency initially said the quake was recorded as a magnitude 5.1, but lowered it to 4.6.

The temblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of one kilometer.

It was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as strong, in the towns of Daet, Mercedes, Talisay and Vinzons and Intensity 3 in Jose Panganiban, Labo and Paracale.

The shaking was felt at Intensity 2 in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

Phivolcs said instrumental Intensity 5 was recorded in Mercedes and Intensity 4 in Daet, both in Camarines Norte, and Intensity 3 in Ragay, Camarines Sur.

Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Guinayangan and Polillo in Quezon, Tabaco in Albay, and Iriga in Camarines Sur.

Phivolcs said no damage or aftershocks were expected from the quake.
