Cagayan village chief slain
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — A barangay captain in Piat town in Cagayan was shot dead on Monday night.
A police report identified the victim as Richard Biraquit, 57, chairman of Barangay Sto. Domingo.
The victim and his wife were in a Toyota Fortuner on their way home when they were attacked.
Biraquit was declared dead on arrival in a hospital. His wife was unhurt.
Meanwhile, in Maguindanao del Sur, Benjie Maon, a teacher at the Mileb Elementary School in Radjah Buayan town, was killed in a gun attack in Sultan sa Barongis on Monday.
Police said Maon’s five-year-old son and seven-year-old nephew, who were with him when the shooting occurred in Sitio Nadal in Barangay Barurao, remained confined in a hospital yesterday.
Investigations into the killings are underway.
