Woman killed in Pasig blaze

MANILA, Philippines — A woman perished in a fire that broke out in an apartment unit in Pasig City last Friday.

The fire that occurred along Sampaguita street in Barangay Sta. Lucia started at around 2:26 a.m. and reached the first alarm, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The victim, Melanie Gonzales, and her 16-year-old son went out of their house, but she went back inside and attempted to put out the fire, where she got trapped.

Firefighters put out the flames at around 3:14 a.m., the BFP said in a report.

Gonzales’ body was found in the comfort room of their house.

Meanwhile, her son was brought to a hospital for second-degree burns on the right arm.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.

Twelve fire trucks and an ambulance responded to the scene.
