Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed another barangay captain in Negros Occidental on Thursday.

Lt Col. J-Jay Javines, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, said Benjamin Javoc, chairman of Barangay Lalong in Calatrava, was shot several times by seven men led by a certain Arnel Tapang who went to his house.

Javines said the suspects also ransacked the house of the barangay captain and took P20,000 in cash and other valuables.

On Thursday, Danilo Dautil, chairman of Barangay Cabcab in Isabela was slain, also by suspected NPA rebels.

Javines said Javoc was the third victim of gun attacks perpetrated by Tapang’s group in Barangays Minapasok, Marcelo and Lalong.
