Cops hunt driver after hit-and-run leaves 1 dead

MANILA, Philippines — Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of a black Ford Ranger pickup truck who reportedly killed a tricycle driver and injured another during a hit-and-run accident in Quezon City.

Police said the vehicle with license plate NCG 8456 figured in a mishap in Barangay Quirino 2-A on Saturday.

According to probers, tricycle driver Joel Laroa, 54, was traveling along Anonas street with his passenger, 27-year-old Rozelle Morales, when they were hit by the pickup truck at the corner of Pajo street at around 5 a.m.

Instead of stopping to help the victims, witnesses said the driver sped off toward an unknown direction.

Bystanders brought Laroa and Morales to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Laroa, however, succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile, two persons were injured in a collision between two vehicles in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa yesterday.

Police said a Toyota Wigo driven by Randell de Leon allegedly counter-flowed and crashed into a Toyota Hilux pickup truck.
