OFWs from Kuwait under quarantine
MANILA, Philippines — Over 100 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait are undergoing quarantine, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported yesterday.
“Out of the 200 OFWs assisted by the DMW, 141 were brought to quarantine facilities due to incomplete vaccination records. Seven of them need medical assistance due to various health conditions,” Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople said.
“We have taken note of our workers with health concerns to give them the necessary assistance,” Ople added.
The DMW said a total of 289 distressed OFWs arrived in Manila on a chartered flight from Kuwait on Tuesday night.
Ople said some of the returning OFWs have been stranded in Kuwait for several months.
She ordered the National Reintegration Center to assess the needs of the repatriated workers.
Some of the returning OFWs were arrested for overstaying or working with expired visas, according to Ople.
