MANILA, Philippines — Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo has ordered the DSWD’s disaster management division to pre-position relief goods to areas prone to typhoons and other calamities.

Tulfo said he would prioritize the preparation of food relief packs to ensure disaster preparedness in times of emergencies.

He inspected yesterday the DSWD National Resource Operations Center in Pasay. The agency can produce 20,000 relief packs daily, he said.

The DSWD distributes food relief packs to local government units (LGUs) for their pre-positioned supply store.

Tulfo said LGUs should employ a “first in, first out” policy in distributing relief items to avoid wastage, especially food packs.

He said he also ordered the 16 regional directors of the DSWD to be prepared for calamities.

“I have instructed the disaster management division to pre-position the relief items such as sleep mats and hygiene kits,” Tulfo said in an interview with “The Chiefs” on Cignal/TV5 on Monday.

He said the DSWD’s approach is to pre-position the relief goods to the LGUs for distribution to families affected by calamities.
