South Korean nabbed for fraud

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A South Korean man was arrested at his luxury condominium unit in Taguig City on Thursday for his alleged involvement in telecommunications fraud in his native country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said yesterday.

Song Chaehyok, 48, was arrested by personnel of the BI’s fugitive search unit after receiving reports of his whereabouts, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.

Morente said Song has a pending summary deportation order issued in 2018 for being an undesirable alien and is in the immigration blacklist, which perpetually bans him from re-entering the Philippines.

Song is also the subject of an Interpol red notice in 2018 after he was charged with fraud before a district court in Jeonju. He is reportedly a member of a syndicate that engages in voice phishing.

Song is being held at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending his deportation.
