MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is conducting measures to prevent flooding in Metro Manila after state weather experts announced the onset of the rainy season, an official said yesterday.

During the Laging Handa briefing, MMDA general manager Frisco San Juan said the agency is continuously cleaning drainage canals, even during sunny days.

“Our engineers are also observing what needs to be looked at, so floods would subside quickly,” he said in Filipino.

San Juan also said that traffic enforcers will apprehend speeding motorists, especially when roads are slippery and wet.

“Our traffic enforcers will be more visible and more active in apprehending motorists who will not be following the speed limit,” he said.

San Juan said reminders for motorists to follow traffic rules would also be posted on social media.
