Duterte names 2 CA justices
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has appointed two new associate justices of the Court of Appeals (CA), Malacañang announced yesterday.
Appointed to the appellate court were Justices John Zurbito Lee and Eleuterio Larisma Bathan.
Lee will replace former associate justice Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, who resigned from the judiciary in November last year.
Bathan, who served as Quezon City Regional Trial Court judge, will occupy the post vacated by Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao, who was promoted to the Supreme Court in July 2021.
In 2019, Bathan sentenced alleged Maute terrorist Unday Macadato to life in prison for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
“The Palace congratulates John Zurbito Lee and Eleuterio Larisma Bathan on their appointment as CA associate justices,” acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said. – Evelyn Macairan
