CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — An anti-narcotics operation resulted in the death of a police officer and a drug suspect in Tanza, Cavite on Sunday.

Cpl. John Paul Digma of the Tanza police intelligence unit died while being treated in a hospital for a gunshot wound in the chest.

The suspect, identified as Leovildo Alangilan, 43, died at the scene.

Alangilan was reportedly a known drug supplier in the community.

In a report, S/Sgts. Francis Mark Cortez and Emerson de Ocampo, both of the Tanza police, said Alangilan was the target of the sting conducted by intelligence operatives in Barangay Biga at around 9:30 a.m.

The suspect reportedly drew his gun after sensing he was dealing with undercover police officers.

A shootout ensued and resulted in the death of Digma and the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Quezon province, two men were killed in an attack by unidentified armed men in Candelaria town on Sunday.

Antonio Ilagan, 32, and Ericksel Canchella, 27, both of Sariaya town, died at the scene of the attack that occurred at around 3:30 p.m. in Barangay Mangilag Sur.

The victims were last seen leaving an establishment in Barangay Concepcion, Sariaya town, where they had a drinking session, according to Candelaria police chief Lt. Col. Arnulfo Selencio.

“No one witnessed the shooting as the area where the killing occurred was far from the community,” Selencio said.
