Quezon City elderly get free maintenance medicines

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government will start giving out free maintenance medication for hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol to elderly residents, Mayor Joy Belmonte said yesterday.

Under the senior citizen maintenance medicines program, each beneficiary will receive Losartan (50mg), Amlodipine (5mg), Metformin (500mg) and Simvastatin (20mg).

The program is in line with City Ordinance No. SP-2892 passed in December 2019.

“Through this program, we will end the problems of our poor residents, especially senior citizens who cannot afford their maintenance medication. We want quality healthcare accessible to all,” Belmonte said.

Beneficiaries need to register at 65 health centers in the city to avail themselves of free medicines. They have to present their QC identification cards or senior citizens ID.

Once registered, the seniors will undergo physical examination by the health center doctor.

Seniors can claim their monthly supply of medicines every first Tuesday of the month, which is declared Senior Citizens’ Day.
