Crame COVID-19 center at full capacity

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 quarantine facility of the Philippine National Police at Camp Crame in Quezon City has reached full capacity as COVID-19 cases in the PNP breached 1,000 yesterday.

Sources said there are over 400 patients at the Kiangan Emergency Treatment Facility as of yesterday morning.

The entire quarantine complex only had 380 COVID-19 beds as of Friday. It is unclear if more beds were added at the facility to accommodate the influx of patients.

“The medical workers are trying to look for more spaces,” one of the sources said in an interview.

The quarantine facility was nearly empty on Jan. 1 as the entire police force only had 39 active cases then.

Another source said the Philsports Arena and Philippine International Convention Center quarantine facilities in Pasig and Pasay, respectively, are nearing full capacity.

In its latest report, the PNP said there are 1,225 active cases as of yesterday after 376 more police personnel contracted COVID-19, which means the infection rate soared by 3,041 percent in one week.
