No untoward incident in jails on New Year’s Eve – BJMP
MANILA, Philippines — It was generally peaceful in the 474 detention facilities of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) across the country on New Year’s Eve.
“We do not have any untoward incident in any of our district, city, and municipal jails across the country,” BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral said in a statement.
Iral on Friday visited some jails in the National Capital Region, where he reminded personnel on the strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under their care.
The BJMP chief emphasized the need to be more cautious in monitoring inmates who are vulnerable to any illness.
“We ended the year with zero COVID-19 cases in both personnel and PDLs under our care in all facilities across the country, so let’s work hard to maintain that record,” he said.
Despite having no significant incident in its jails, the BJMP will remain on red alert to ensure the operational readiness of its units.
