MANILA, Philippines — The first few days of the implementation of the modified number coding scheme in the National Capital Region resulted in lighter traffic flow during the afternoon rush hour, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

In an interview on dzBB, MMDA Traffic Engineering Center head Neomie Recio said the traffic situation improved in the afternoon compared to the morning rush hour.

“Based on our observation, the traffic bottleneck did not last. We saw that from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., the number-coded plates were already on the roads,” Recio said in Filipino.

“I can say that even just a bit, we saw a good result from the number coding scheme,” she added.

Recio said 51 private motorists were accosted for violating the traffic scheme last week.

The MMDA has resumed the number coding scheme only for private vehicles from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
