CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Unidentified motorcycle-riding men gunned down a director of a hospital in this city yesterday.

Police said Raul Andutan, a known surgeon in the city, was driving his Toyota Fortuner when he was shot in Barangay Nazareth.

The victim suffered three gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

A witness said he heard at least four gunshots. He said he then saw Andutan’s vehicle hit a laundry shop when the doctor lost control of the wheel.

Lt. Mirasol Capiña of the Nazareth police station said the victim could have been on his way to the Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital in Barangay Camanman-an, where he was the medical director, when the incident occurred.

In Maguindanao, Cpl. Henry Mangaser Olindo Jr., who was assigned in Lumbatan, Lanao del Sur, was killed in a gun attack in Barangay Kauran in Ampatuan town.

Olindo was on his motorcycle on his way to the town proper in Sultan Kudarat when unidentified men on another motorbike opened fire.

Probers have yet to determine the motives for the killings.
