MANILA, Philippines — At least 93 percent of inmates under the supervision of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology have been vaccinated against COVID-19, the BJMP reported yesterday.

BJMP spokesman Chief Insp. Xavier Solda said 116,760 or 93.35 percent of the 125,082 inmates detained in 474 jails across the country have received COVID-19 jabs.

Of the number, 86,702 or 74.25 percent of the inmates are fully vaccinated. The rest are waiting for their second dose.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who is also the co-chairman of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of
Emerging Infectious Diseases, commended the BJMP during the opening of the bureau’s 4th Community Relations Service Congress yesterday.

Nograles lauded the BJMP for ensuring the protection of jail personnel and inmates during the pandemic.

Aside from COVID-19 jabs, the inmates were also given flu and pneumococcal vaccines.
