Slain ex-Batangas mayor’s brod shot dead

BATANGAS, Philippines — A brother of slain former mayor Joven Hidalgo of Balete town was shot dead on Thursday.

Town police chief Maj. Arlan Perez said furniture trader Francisco Hidalgo Jr., a resident of Barangay Santiago in Malvar town, had just alighted from his vehicle in front of his shop in Barangay Sico in San Juan when five men approached from behind and shot the victim.

Witnesses said the suspects escaped in a white car.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.

The former mayor was killed while watching a basketball game on June 9, 2017.
