Marikina eyes incentives for fully vaxxed residents
MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina government is studying measures to provide incentives to the city’s residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said yesterday.
Teodoro made the statement after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, through presidential spokesman Harry Roque, urged local government units to pass ordinances that would provide perks to fully vaccinated individuals.
The local chief executive said some business establishments in Marikina are already offering promos, discounts, freebies and other incentives to fully vaccinated customers.
“We are encouraging businesses like these that are taking the initiative to give incentives to vaccinated customers,” Teodoro said in a statement.
According to Teodoro, vaccine hesitancy in Marikina is no longer an issue due to the high acceptance of COVID-19 jabs by their residents.
“As we have already achieved herd immunity here in Marikina, we just need to educate and motivate unvaccinated residents to get the jab,” he said.
There were at least 184 active COVID-19 cases in Marikina as of Thursday. The barangays with the most number of cases were Concepcion Dos with
29; Marikina Heights, 25, and Concepcion Uno, 22.
