Zamboanga City COVID-19 death toll nearing 1,000

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The number of COVID fatalities in this city is nearing 1,000 after 18 more deaths were recorded within eight days since Monday last week.

As of Nov. 6, the city health office had logged 974 deaths since the pandemic started last year.

Although the number of admitted patients and cases have been declining, the Zamboanga City Medical Center noted an average of 2.25 percent increase in deaths from Nov. 1 to yesterday.

The city health office said the highest number of deaths was recorded last month at 204.

Active cases gradually declined to 1,557 after surging to as high as 2,800 by end of October.

A large number of recoveries at 195 and new cases at 74 were logged over the weekend.
