PCG on heightened alert for Undas

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Starting tomorrow, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be on heightened alert until Nov. 4 in anticipation of the expected increase of sea passengers during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

PCG commandant Vice Admiral Leopoldo Laroya ordered Coast Guard operating units to be on alert during the long weekend for possible search and rescue missions.

Laroya said fully vaccinated individuals are expected to visit tourist destinations following the easing of quarantine restrictions as the Philippines is now considered low risk for COVID-19.

He reminded port passengers and local tourists to follow health protocols and prepare their vaccination cards, if necessary.

The PCG dispatched maritime safety inspectors in port terminals to provide security to sea passengers.

The PCG said it coordinated with the Philippine Ports Authority and Maritime Industry Authority to ensure the implementation of the 50 percent maximum capacity for passenger vessels.
