MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government started yesterday the vaccination of minors aged 12 to 17 with comorbidities.

At least 530 eligible minors were given COVID-19 jabs at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Hospital, Ospital ng Tondo, Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital, Ospital ng Sampaloc and Sta. Ana Hospital.

Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, a doctor who is seeking to succeed Mayor Isko Moreno in next year’s elections, led the vaccination of minors.

A total of 45,047 minors have registered for vaccination as of Sunday, according to the city’s public information office.

Some 222 minors were inoculated during the pilot launch at the Ospital ng Maynila on Friday.

Minors with comorbidities need to be vaccinated to prepare them for face-to-face classes and to protect them from the disease, the hospital directors said.
