Rebel leader, 2 sons surrender

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — An alleged team leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) and his two sons surrendered to the military in Sta. Catalina, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

The surrenderees, who were allegedly members of the NPA’s South East Front-Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros, surrendered to the Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Nahayag, Barangay Tinalak, according to Lt. Col. Roderick Salayo, chief of the 11IB.

The former rebels, whose names were withheld for security reasons, surrendered a rifle and documents with intelligence value.

They told the military that the lack of support and false promises of their leaders prompted them to return to the fold of the law.
