PNP gets 60 more body-worn cameras
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) got an added boost in its efforts to promote transparency in the operations of its personnel after it received 60 more-body worn cameras (BWCs).
PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday received the body cameras, which were donated by the Public Safety Savings Loan Association Inc. (PSSLAI).
Eleazar said the body cameras were distributed to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Anti-Cyber Crime Group, Anti-Kidnapping Group, Drug Enforcement Group and Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
Apart from transparency, Eleazar said the gadgets will strengthen the investigative capability of its personnel in all their operations and probe of cases.
He lauded the PSSLAI for helping them improve the capabilities of their personnel.
The PNP has distributed at least 2,696 BWCs to 171 police stations and offices across the country.
Eleazar said the PNP needs at least 30,000 more body cameras to cover all their units nationwide.
The PNP has procured the body cameras in response to allegations of human rights abuses being committed by police officers in anti-drug operations.
