AFP deploys 8 nurses to Lung Center
MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) yesterday deployed eight nurses to the Lung Center of the Philippines to augment the healthcare workforce of the hospital and boost its capability in battling COVID-19.
Col. Fatima Claire Navarro, the AFP’s Surgeon General, led the send-off ceremony for the team of nurses at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
“We are all affected by the pandemic, but in situations when our fellow healthcare workers are feeling low, a friend or even a stranger who will extend help, expecting nothing in return, may be a beacon of hope,” Navarro said.
Two teams from the AFP Nurse Corps will be deployed per month in government-run hospitals under the memorandum of agreement signed by the AFP and the Department of Health.
Four of the nurses were previously deployed in Davao while two came from Cebu and two others from the V. Luna Medical Center.
They tested negative for the virus prior to their deployment and will undergo swab tests every two weeks for monitoring.
