2 slain, 1 hurt in gun attack
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Two persons were killed while another was wounded when unidentified armed men opened fire at a van in Passi, Iloilo on Friday.
Jennelyn Griño, 32, and Joemar Fuentes, 18, were declared dead on arrival at the Don Valerio F. Palmares Memorial District Hospital from gunshots to the head.
Their companion Kenneth Dorado, 38, was shot in the leg and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Van driver Jennifer Opina, 40, was not hit, according to Lt. Col. Dennis Pamonag, Passi police chief.
Pamonag said the victims hired Opina to take them to Capiz from Iloilo City.
Opina said she overtook a red car as they were taveling along the highway in Zarraga town.
Upon reaching Barangay Aglalana in Passi, Opina said she heard gunfire from the red car that she earlier overtook.
Investigation showed there were three persons in the red car. Two of them fired at the van, police said.
Probers recovered at the crime scene eight and nine bullet shells for a 9mm pistol and rifle, respectively.
Police have yet to identify the assailants.
