SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines — Police filed parricide charges on Wednesday against the son of a public school teacher who was found dead with stab wounds at her residence in Barangay Tarece in this city on Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Luis Ventura Jr., city police officer-in-charge, said Aravani Nisperos, 20, admitted stabbing to death his mother Maria Cristina, 40, a teacher at the Agdao Integrated School.

Ventura said the neighbors of the victim claimed they heard the mother and son, who were on home quarantine after they tested positive for COVID-19, arguing between 1:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Aravani, who was brought to a hospital for treatment of his wounds, reportedly called one of his cousins, claiming that an unidentified suspect entered their house and stabbed them.

Aravani later apologized and admitted the crime to his uncles.

Police said the suspect was jealous of his younger brother, who he believes was their mother’s favorite.
