MANILA, Philippines — Laguna and Bacoor City in Cavite logged record COVID-19 cases on Friday, according to the OCTA Research Group.

Citing data from the Department of Health, OCTA fellow Guido David said Laguna accounted for 1,270 of the 17,447 cases reported on Friday.

It was the highest single-day tally in the province, which ranked second to Cavite with 1,480 cases.

David said Bacoor logged 444 cases, also the highest recorded in a day in the city.

Bulacan logged 877 cases; Cebu, 793, and Rizal, 582.

Davao City recorded its second highest single-day tally of 464 cases. Its highest COVID cases was recorded on June 17 at 479.

MECQ in 2 Pangasinan towns

Meanwhile, Sison and Pozorrubio towns in Pangasinan were placed under modified enhanced community quarantine from Aug. 27 to Sept. 9.

The municipal government of Sison allayed fears of a total lockdown, saying the stricter quarantine classification was meant only to prevent the spread of the virus.

Urdaneta City and Villasis had earlier reverted to general community quarantine.

Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino III expressed concern on the increase in the number of COVID cases in the province with 2,935 recorded on Friday.

Espino said the past week saw a surge in infections with 202 reported on Sunday, 317 on Monday, 344 on Tuesday, 489 on Wednesday, 592 on Thursday and 721 on Friday.

“Mas matindi po ang hagupit sa atin ngayon ng COVID-19,” he said. – Eva Visperas
