DOH probes deaths in Laguindingan after COVID-19 jab
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) regional office in Northern Mindanao has started its investigation into the death of four members of a family one after another two weeks after they received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine.
Jerry Calingasan of the Misamis Oriental Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 said a couple and their daughter and son-in-law lived in separate houses in a compound in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.
Calingasan said one of the couples were vaccinated on July 26 and the other on July 27.
The younger couple died on Aug. 1 and Aug. 6. One of them tested positive for COVID-19.
Of the elder couple, one died while being treated in a hospital while the other was declared dead on arrival in a medical center in Marawi on Aug. 8.
“Based on my personal investigation, the couples did not die because of the vaccines. All of them have comorbidities and were taking the same medicine,” Calingasan said.
He said they are waiting for the result of the DOH investigation.
