Navotas posts spike in COVID-19 cases
MANILA, Philippines — The positivity rate for COVID-19 in Navotas surged in the past week, Mayor Toby Tiangco said on Saturday.
Tiangco said the number of COVID-19 cases in the city went up to 29 percent from Aug. 4 to 10, from 11 percent from July 28 to Aug. 3.
“This means for every 10 people, three are testing positive (for the virus). The transmission of COVID-19 is that fast,” Tiangco said.
Navotas also posted the highest average daily attack rate (ADAR) at 47.67 from Aug. 7 to 13, Tiangco said, citing a report of the OCTA Research Group.
ADAR refers to the number of new daily COVID cases per 100,000.
“This is the top spot we did not want to get,” Tiangco said. “We used to have the lowest ADAR. Now we have the highest. So we need to take precautions to bring down COVID cases.”
Navotas posted an average 129 daily cases of COVID, up from 41, Tiangco added.
