Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — More than half of Mandaluyong’s new COVID-19 infections were not vaccinated, the city government reported yesterday.

Out of 86 people infected with the virus as of Tuesday, Mayor Menchie Abalos said 46 were not vaccinated. Their ages ranged between 20 and 30. There are 564 active COVID-19 cases in the city.

Abalos said the local government has injected first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 339,139 people or about 110 percent of the city’s eligible population for vaccination of 325,127.

Mandaluyong has a total population of 464,467. Of the figure, 222,043 residents have been fully vaccinated.

Abalos called on the unvaccinated residents to register with the MandaVax websites.

“Please register because most of those who were infected were not vaccinated. This Delta variant is not a joke,” she said.

Abalos said 31,257 elderly residents have received COVID-19 vaccines. Of the number, 25,597 have been fully vaccinated.
