Sandigan junks graft raps vs Revilla
MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has dismissed the remaining graft cases filed against Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. in connection with the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam.
Citing insufficiency of evidence, the anti-graft court’s Special First Division granted Revilla’s petition for a demurrer to evidence, which sought the dismissal of 16 counts of violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act without presenting his defense.
The Sandiganbayan said the trial of businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, co-accused of Revilla and alleged brains of the pork barrel scam, would continue as the court denied her petition.
The complaint against Revilla’s former staff member, Richard Cambe, was dismissed after he died of a stroke on April 8.
In December 2018, the First Division acquitted Revilla of plunder over the alleged misuse of P517 million in pork barrel funds from 2007 to 2009.
