MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its manhunt operations for suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels believed to be behind the death of former Far Eastern University football player Kieth Absalon and his cousin Nolven Absalon in Masbate.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar ordered police units in the province to conduct aggressive law enforcement against 24 NPA rebels who were charged with double murder and frustrated murder before the Masbate City prosecutor’s office on Monday.

“I am directing the local police to intensify their intelligence-gathering operations to immediately locate and arrest the suspects,” Eleazar said.

He said the PNP would ”find ways” to give justice to the victims if the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the NPA would not surrender the rebels.

The CPP-NPA has taken full responsibility for the killing of the Absalon cousins, but refused to turn over its members who committed the crime.
