Independence Day rallies banned in Manila
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will not allow protesters to stage rallies in the city to mark Independence Day today.
“No, they will not be allowed (to hold protests),” MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco told The STAR yesterday.
He said the MPD, which is on full alert, will deploy 700 police officers to all areas where rallies are usually held to comply with health protocols set by national government to prevent mass gatherings.
The MPD also blocked off protesters during the Labor Day protests last month.
