NPA rebel killed in Negros
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel died while two Army soldiers were wounded in an encounter in Barangay Carabalan in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental yesterday.
Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said the slain NPA guerrilla was abandoned by his comrades at the site of the encounter.
The wounded soldiers were airlifted to a hospital in this city.
Pasaporte said soldiers belonging to the 62nd Infantry Battalion were on combat patrol when the clash occurred.
Firefight was ongoing as of yesterday afternoon.
