Magnitude 5.3 quake jolts Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked Surigao del Norte before dawn yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

Phivolcs said the quake occurred at around 5:41 a.m., with its epicenter traced 68 kilometers northeast of Burgos town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Dapa, Surigao del Norte and Intensity 2 in Palo, Leyte.

In Masbate, a magnitude 4.1 quake struck at 2:17 a.m., also yesterday. It was felt at Intensity 4 in the entire town of Pio V. Corpuz.
