New LPA in sight over Eastern Samar — PAGASA
MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said it is monitoring a new low pressure area seen over Eastern Samar.
Per the agency's latest forecast, the LPA was at 350 kilometers east southeast of Borongan City in the said province this afternoon.
The weather disturbance is within the Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ, but still has a small chance of developing into a storm.
Still, PAGASA said it will bring cloudy skies, rains and thunderstorms tonight over Eastern Visayas and Surigao provinces.
Four storms have entered the Philippines so far this 2021, with the latest being Tropical Storm "Dante" (Choi-wan).
It left 11 people dead, per disaster officials' latest report, along with over P131 million damage to infrastructure and more than P91 million to crops.
Should this LPA intensify, it will be called "Emong" based on PAGASA's tropical cyclone names for this year.
Cloudy skies and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, meanwhile, will be experienced over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Palawan and Mindoro Provinces due to the southwest monsoon.
The same are expected over Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Region, but due to the ITCZ.
PAGASA said the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, also with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
The agency last week declared the start of the rainy season in the country, after months of dry season that saw significantly high temperatures
