OFW found dead in Cebu quarantine hotel

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 41-year-old overseas Filipino worker was found dead in her room at a hotel in Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, where she was quarantined, on Sunday.

Police said Geraldine Dasalya, 41, arrived in Cebu from Qatar on May 21 after she was reportedly retrenched due to an unspecified medical condition. She was supposed to return to her hometown in Nueva Ecija on the same day after she tested negative for COVID-19.

The cause of death has yet to be determined even as police ruled out foul play, citing results of initial investigation.

Dasalya’s companion sought assistance from the hotel management, saying she was not answering her calls.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said it would arrange the transport of Dasalga’s body to her family via a sweeper flight from Cebu to Manila once an autopsy report and her death certificate were issued. – /The Freeman
