MANILA, Philippines — Police officers should never let their guard down as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar will still conduct surprise inspections of police offices.

Despite having a busier schedule now that he is the country’s top cop, Eleazar said yesterday he would continue his habit of visiting police stations to check on police officers’ activities.

“Huwag na nila hintayin na ako pa ang pumunta para mag-inspect doon pero gagawin ko pa rin ‘yun (They shouldn’t wait for me to inspect them, but I will still do it),” he said in an interview over Teleradyo.

Eleazar used to conduct surprise inspections when he was director of the Quezon City Police District and chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, catching police officers sleeping on the job.

He also berated police officers for not cleaning their stations and offices.

Eleazar also inspected quarantine control points or checkpoints when he was commander of Joint Task Force COVID Shield as PNP deputy chief for operations.
