MANILA, Philippines — Another lawmaker has contracted COVID-19.
Quezon Rep. Aleta Suarez confirmed yesterday that she tested positive for the disease, a few days after her husband Gov. Danilo Suarez was found infected.
The congresswoman said she is not experiencing any symptom and is on home quarantine.
She appealed to those who she may have interacted with in the past few days to self-quarantine and monitor themselves for symptoms.
Reps. Pantaleon Alvarez of Davao del Norte, Martin Romualdez (Leyte), John Rey Tiangco (Navotas), Edgar Erice (Caloocan), Mike Defensor (Anakalusugan party-list), Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong (Negros Oriental) and Manny Lopez (Manila) had earlier tested positive for COVID-19.
Reps. Francisco Datol (Senior Citizens party-list) and Ditas Ramos (Sorsogon) had succumbed to the disease.
126 more cops infected
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) logged 126 new COVID-19 cases.
PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said said the number of active cases in the police force is now 1,535.
Forty-four of the patients are confined in hospitals while 1,491 are in quarantine facilities.
The Cagayan Valley police recorded 19 new cases; Northern Mindanao, 18; the Cordilleras, 11, and Metro Manila, nine.
Thirty-six other patients are from various administrative and operational support units of the PNP. Seven are assigned at Camp Crame.
At least 92.44 percent of the 21,086 PNP members who have been infected since last year have recovered.
At the Kiangan Emergency Treatment Facility at Camp Crame, where patients with mild to severe symptoms are being treated, the occupancy rate is at 87.27 percent.
The situation at five isolation facilities at Camp Crame has improved, with 54 of the 211 beds occupied, an occupancy rate of 25.59 percent.
Eleazar said 12,880 police personnel have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines. At least 4,865 have been fully vaccinated.
