Ecleo hospitalized for COVID-19 – BuCor
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Corrections confirmed yesterday that former congressman and cult leader Ruben Ecleo was hospitalized for COVID-19 last month.
Ecleo, a former Dinagat Islands congressman and once the “supreme master” of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association cult, was confined at the Dr. J. Sabili General Hospital in Taguig then brought back to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Hospital last Sunday, BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said.
“He has already recovered,” Chaclag said.
Insiders said Ecleo was suffering from COVID-19, moderate pneumonia, congestive heart failure and chronic hepatic congestion at the NBP Hospital and was transferred to the private hospital late last month when the government-run Ospital ng Muntinlupa and other public hospitals were full.
Ecleo was convicted in 2012 for the murder of his wife and was in hiding until he was arrested in July last year.
He was also convicted of three counts of graft by the Sandiganbayan in 2006.
