MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Audit (COA) has scolded the Government Arsenal (GA) for donating P6.085 million worth of vehicles to the Department of National Defense (DND).

In its 2020 annual audit report, the COA noted that the GA was able to acquire five units of Toyota Innova in 2019 by selling its assorted brass scraps through a barter deal in November 2019.

Based on COA’s records, the vehicles were delivered to the DND in December 2019 even as the Deed of Donation was still up for signature.

State auditors said the GA management admitted that the vehicles were donated to the DND.

The audit body said the vehicles should not have been donated to the DND.

The COA also discovered that six other vehicles amounting to P27,717 were no longer visible within the GA premises but were still included in its book of accounts.

The missing vehicles include an Isuzu car, two fire trucks, a Hi-ace commuter van, a Toyota Corona and a Toyota mini cruiser, which were acquired from 1967 to 1987.
