MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has issued stamps commemorating the 500th anniversary of the arrival of the image of the Child Jesus in Cebu.

Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio led the launch of the commemorative stamps at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in Cebu City on April 14.

The event was attended by Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, National Historical Commission of the Philippines chairman Rene Escalante and presidential assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino.

“The post office pays its homage to the image of Señor Sto. Niño of Cebu, the source of hope and faith of the people, who is historically recognized as the oldest religious relic in the Philippines,” Fulgencio said in a speech.

The ceremony highlighted the uniqueness of Philippine culture and history.
