MANILA, Philippines — Former president Joseph Estrada is doing better despite still being in intensive care and on oxygen support, his son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, said yesterday.

“My father is doing better today. His medications for blood pressure support are being lessened and his kidney function is improving,” he said.

Jinggoy said his father “seems to be responding well to measures to control lung infection.”

Estrada remains on oxygen support but is alert and oriented, he added.

The former president was brought to a non-COVID intensive care unit on Thursday when doctors found a bacterial lung infection. He had been taken to a regular room from the COVID-19 ICU after he tested negative for COVID-19.

Estrada, who is turning 84 on April 19, was rushed to the hospital last week due to COVID-19 infection and severe pneumonia.
