1 dead, 4 arrested in Maguindanao raids

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A suspect was killed while four others were arrested in joint police and military operations in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao on Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, said Marcos Manungal was killed in a shootout with law enforcers in a raid on his hideout in Barangay Sambulawan.

Police said a shotgun, a rifle and various types of ammunition were recovered from the fatality.

Jaybee Mastura managed to escape, but four of his alleged cohorts identified as Mike Guipal Badrudin, Nadia Kero, Arbaiya Bangkong Mustapha and Ali Ebrahim Ebrahim were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

The suspects reportedly yielded three rifles, a caliber. 45 pistol, a fragmentation grenade, several rounds of ammunition and magazines for various calibers.
