5 Abu Sayyaf, soldiers wounded in Sulu clash
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Three Abu Sayyaf bandits and two soldiers were wounded in an encounter in Patikul, Sulu on Wednesday.
Troops led by First Lt. Mar Almo of the 21st Infantry Battalion (IB) clashed with the followers of Radullan Sahiron in Barangay Lower Sinumaan at around 8 a.m, Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division commander, said.
The wounded bandits were identified only as Muadz, said to be a grandson of Sahiron, and Aldam and Sans.
”This confirms the tip we have received that they have a dwindling supply of ammunition. They are obviously on the defensive,” Gonzales said on the withdrawal of the bandits.
Lt. Col. Gerald Monfort, 21st IB commander, said the wounded soldiers were evacuated to a military hospital at Camp Gen. Teodulfo Bautista in Barangay Busbus in Jolo.
